Collections Council

Charge

Under the leadership and guidance of the Collection Development Officer, the Collections Council:

  • Determines the overall collections priorities of the Libraries, recommending allocation of resources reflecting those priorities
  • Engages in strategic and tactical planning with respect to Libraries collection resources and University programs, priorities and initiatives
  • Develops collection development and management guidelines, policies and procedures regarding selection, acquisitions, preservation, withdrawal, reformatting, etc., ensuring relevant input from users and appropriate staff
  • Maintains effective communication with staff and users about collection development and management issues
  • Collaborates with Libraries divisions to ensure that materials and resources are effectively delivered to users within academic programs

Meetings

The Collections Council regularly meets for two hours on the first Wednesday of each month. Depending on the immediacy of pending issues and decisions, the Council may meet more frequently. Summary notes of the Collections Council meetings are promptly posted on the CD Staff Website.
