Collection Strategy & Development

Collection Strategy provides the Libraries with overall leadership and responsibility for the development of its general collections, ensuring effective planning and resource allocation for current and future needs. Responsibility and expertise includes:

• Leadership and administrative oversight responsibility for the $18M+ collections budget
• Development of collection development strategy and policy
• Negotiation and communication with publishers and vendors
• Investigating and implementing collaborative cross-institutional opportunities, especially with the Big Ten Academic Alliance.
• Value- and evidence-based collection development decisions
• Contribution to the annual compact preparation

The Collection Development Officer (CDO) works in collaboration with six disciplinary Collections Coordinators, the Electronic Resources Librarian, subject liaisons, and advisory groups. The CDO co-chairs the Collections Strategic Steering Committee (CSSC) and chairs Collections Council.
