Libraries Google Digitization Project

The University Libraries, in partnership with Google and through a joint agreement with the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), is sending monographs (books) and serials (periodicals) to be scanned and made searchable and, depending on copyright status, available online through both Google Books and HathiTrust Digital Library.

Background

Since 2009, the University Libraries, in partnership with Google and (through a joint agreement) Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), has been sending monographs (books) and serials (periodicals) to be scanned and made searchable and, depending on copyright status, viewable online. BTAA members are partnering with Google to digitize millions of volumes in their library collections and deposit them in HathiTrust for purposes of access, preservation, and computational research. As of August 2019, the University of Minnesota has contributed 620,000 digitized volumes to the HathiTrust Digital Library by means of Google scanning.
