Libraries/U of M Logo Policy
To ensure a consistent brand for the Libraries, please follow this policy when developing print and electronic communications that will be shared outside of library staff in a promotional or marketing capacity.
Although this policy does not apply to informal communication or instructional or scholarly output of Libraries staff, it is expected that the Libraries' branding be used in all formal communications representing the work of the U of M Libraries. Tools like the Libraries' template for handouts can streamline this work and the Communications Office encourages its use.
- All print and electronic communications and marketing materials that represent a library, collection, or unit of the University Libraries intended for a public audience should be shared with the Libraries Communications Office. This includes, but may not be limited to, posters, fliers, newsletters, email campaigns, videos, signage, banners, tablecloths, and gifts and gear (pens, mugs, T-shirts).
- The M Libraries | University of Minnesota logo and wordmark must be used on all public communications, with some exceptions.
- In certain instances (for example multiple UMN departments sponsoring an event), only the University of Minnesota wordmark may be used. The Communications Office can advise on details.
- In some limited instances, a sub-unit logo can be used (for example, M Libraries | Publishing Services). In such cases, the U of M wordmark must also be used, but cannot be “locked” to the Libraries branding. The Communications Office can advise on details.
- The Libraries Communications Office has created general templates for posters, fliers, handouts, presentations, and more. Use of these templates is encouraged, but not required so long as the logo and wordmark are used appropriately. Appropriate use of the wordmark includes correct placement, sizing, color, and buffer zones. The Communications Office can advise.
- Staff planning a public email campaign must work with the Libraries Communications Office and its mass email platforms.
